How did Liz Lau Studio get started?

I like to believe that Liz Lau Studio started when I was a child. Ever since I could remember, I would collect and cherish craft materials and turn them into treasures. Fast forward to 2017, I had finished my Industrial Design degree and was working as a laser cutting technician. I started cutting my own designs during the down time and started selling jewellery to friends and then finally, to strangers online.

What is your inspiration?

My biggest inspiration is to bring a bit of whimsy into people’s lives. My products, although mindfully designed and crafted, are not meant to be serious! I take notes from my Chinese culture, life as a woman and my ever lasting love for colour.

How do you make everything?

A great question! You will have noticed that I do not confine myself to one medium because I want to experiment and play! I love creating on the computer as much as I do making with my hands. A selection of my jewellery is created through computer illustrations that are laser cut before being finished by hand. My ceramic pieces are made with hand building and slip casting techniques. They are the most time consuming products but they keep my hands busy and satisfied. My art prints are all digitally drawn using different techniques and programs.

Where can I see your products in person?

I regularly do pop-ups at art and design markets across Sydney (possibly more cities soon!). I also stock at a growing number of brick and mortar stores around Australia. Follow @lizlaustudio on Instagram for my pop-up whereabouts and new stockists!

Are you open to collaborations?

Yes! I am definitely interested in collaborations with other artists, organisations and companies. Please feel free to contact me via email to get in touch so we can get working.

Do you offer wholesale?

I do! If you own a store and would like to see some Liz Lau Studio products on your shelves, I would be more than happy to assist. Please email me your details and I can follow up with more information.
